Paula L. Mandel

This Cosmic Interactions series is an unexpected direct result of a commission I received to create a logo concept for a local bakery/catering company. After several meetings with the owners, we all agreed that a pear would be an appropriate symbol for their establishment. I became preoccupied with the human shape of pears and drew them continually.

When I turned back to my academic work, my fascination reappeared and I began to think of pears as humans. I have drawn them in many varied relationships. These allegories are statements about our lives... about our interactions in the cosmos.

I have explored many varied media, including colored inks, pastels, watercolors, watercolor crayons, oil pastels and graphite on both paper and mylar. I continue to be excited by color, motion, texture and pattern.
